eCube

The eCube is an ingenious device that can be installed in a refrigeration unit which improves efficiency of the unit by monitoring produce temperature rather than conventionally monitoring air temperature.

Why we like it:

Much of the energy used by refrigeration units is not required as the thermometer in the fridge monitors the air temperature rather than the actual produce temperature. The eCube can greatly reduce the amount of energy needed to ensure produce is kept at the correct temperature. With the addition of the eCube, the thermometer is converted so that it can make a more accurate assessment of what the produce temperature is. The installation of an eCube in one refrigeration unit can reduce running costs by up to 33%, 500-1000 kWhrs (resulting in over £50 saving) per annum and a 1000kg reduction in your carbon emissions over a year.  The compressor has been proven to activate up to 50% less often with the eCube fitted so it helps to extend the life of the main part that can develop a fault and reduce maintenance costs.

How does it work?

The eCube is made from a high grade wax mixed with food product which is then attached to the thermometer. The thermometer monitors the temperature of the eCube rather than the air contained in the refrigeration unit. Non-converted thermometers constantly monitor the air of the refrigeration unit rather than the produce, air increase in temperature much quicker than produce. This means that non-converted thermometers detect this increase and activate the cooling cycle and simply reduce the air temperature rather than the contents.

The eCube should be fitted by a trained refrigeration engineer and costing approximately £35 + VAT.
