Available as a single or double set. The eTRV only fits to radiators with an existing Thermostatic Radiator Valve (TRV).

The eTRV is designed to fit most standard TRV fittings. In a small number of cases adaptors may be requried. Please contact the manufacturer Chalmor for further advice.

Why we like them

The eTRV is a new concept in Thermostatic Radiator Valves. They replace your existing TRV, allowing you to programme each radiator with different on / off times and temperatures for each day of the week.

You can now tailor your radiators to your needs, meaning you can have seldom used rooms at a lower temperature, and turn them off when you don’t need them. This means your boiler won’t have to work as hard – lowering your gas bill.

The handy remote control means you don’t need to bend down or reach behind furniture.

Reducing your bills

I understand that rooms can be individually controlled, but if the boiler is still on, how am I saving energy?

All boilers have a built-in boiler thermostat. The more radiators that are on, the greater the demand will be on the heating system, and the more frequently the boiler thermostat will run the boiler. With a number of radiators switched off, there will be less demand on the system, and the boiler thermostat will run the boiler less frequently, saving energy.

How do you arrive at the claim of “realistic potential for 25% energy savings”?

We offer this statement as an indication of the savings that eTRV could achieve. However, actual savings will depend on many factors, such as the construction and insulation of your home, how you currently manage your heating, and how you intend to manage your heating using eTRV. Other manufacturers claim savings of 30% are achievable.

Independent studies for similar devices claim savings of 20% to 24% are available. To save 25%, we would expect that you would need to be able to programme each radiator to be off for a third of the time it is currently set to be on. For example, if a living room is heated from 6am to 9pm (15 hours), your lifestyle may allow an eTRV to operate the heating in that room from 6am to 10am and then from 3pm to 9pm (10 hours). If a bedroom is heated from 6am to 8am and then from 6pm to 10pm (6 hours), your lifestyle may allow an eTRV to operate the heating in that room from 6am to 8am and then from 8pm to 10pm (4 hours). Using different temperature settings for each period could also help to maximise the energy savings.

What is the typical ‘pay-back’ time for an eTRV?

The time it takes to recoup the investment in buying an eTRV varies according to the size of the property, how well it is insulated, the room-temperature requirements of the occupiers, the way the thermostats are programmed and numerous other factors. See Cost Analysis.

Great product, highly recommend. We're more comfortable and it's easy and convenient to boost radiators, or send them to sleep. Time programming works well, kids bedroom radiators go off now at 8pm while ours run on a later programme. Clever and looks good too.
